Derrick Broekemier bio pic

Derrick Broekemier will be the 17 Mizuno Head Coach for the 2023-24 season. Broekemier played club volleyball as a four-year starting outside at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resources. He earned a master’s degree in human resources management from Concordia University – Saint Paul.

At the Edge Volleyball Club in Des Plaines, Illinois, Broekemier coached 16- and 17-year-olds over the last five seasons. He led the 16-year-old team to a top-five finish in the Chicago Volleyball League in 2020 and that squad also won its division at the Milwaukee Winter Classic. In 2022, Broekemier was the head coach for the 17-year-old team that won its division at the Arizona Festival and finished in the top eight of the Chicago Volleyball League.

Before joining the Edge, Broekemier was an assistant coach for the Northern Impact (Minnesota) 17-year-old team in 2017. He also served as a student assistant and practice player for the Omaha Mavericks in 2015.

Broekemier is a native of Central City, Nebraska where he competed in cross country, basketball and track. He is a self-proclaimed volley nerd that stemmed from watching great high school volleyball and following the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball program as a kid.
